It’s funny how some artists keep popping up across a long time horizon. I remember coming across Library of the Printed Web (2013–2017) at Printed Matter’s book fair, and adding it to the library at the time. Then this clip surfaced.

Concept
Extreme time-stretching, using Paulstretch or a similar spectral stretching algorithm, expands a track’s duration exponentially while holding pitch constant. Rhythmic pop structure becomes sustained ambient drone and textured soundscape.
Behavior
In the clip, a brief vocal hook is slowed by 800%. Three things happen:
- Harmonic extension. Short vocal notes morph into continuous, organ-like pads.
- Micro-detail exposure. Transients, room reverberation, and subtle vocal formants are pulled apart, turning rapid attacks into long, shifting timbral phases.
- Loss of rhythm. Tempo and beat boundaries dissolve completely, and the listener’s focus shifts from beat-driven structure to static tone and texture.
